GameCity

November 7, 2008 | In Gaming, Gaming Events 2 Comments

Hey All!

So last weekend I went back home to Derby to jump across to Nottingham to attend GameCityThree. Its a videogame festival that’s in its 3rd year. So far I’ve been to everyone as our lectures arrange for use to show up for at lease one of the days. The last two have been really good so i wasn’t going to miss this one. The last two years i have been to talks done by many great people such as Lorne Lanning (creator of the Oddworld series) and Keita Takahashi (creator of the Katamari series)

So since I’m not bound by lectures at Uni and some holiday at work i could take, I came back for the full weekend. The festival was spread over 3 days, Thursday to Saturday with various events and talks scattered throughout the days.

Read about my adventures over the 3 days after the break!

Video Games Live!

October 29, 2008 | In Gaming, Gaming Events 1 Comment

Hey all!

Well Last Friday was amazing. Me and my course mate Loki went down to London to see Video Games Live and I have to say that i had one of the best times of life there.

Music is very important to me and to be there to hear such wonderful music made me feel so euphoric and inspired! ^_^

Many classics were played from such games as Metroid, Zelda, Metal gear solid (One of my personal favorites… i got chills as the end of that ^_^) and Kingdom hearts (orchestral version of passion ^o^).

There was also a appearance from the Video Game Pianist - Martin Leung. He was amazing! He played many pieces such as a Final Fantasy medley (Which included to my love Aeris theme! <3 <3 <3 ), playing the mario theme blindfolded and then again at about 4-8x the speed O_o. His hands were a blur….

Some gaming was also included. Firstly a live play of space invaders, with the guy actually been the little tank thing. He had to run across the stage to get the tank to move! It was so funny to watch XD. Along with that there was also a love play of guitar hero along side the orchestra. The guy who was playing was stupidly good and deserved his prizes XD

But that all built up to the end where they did a full live rendition, complete with electric guitar of ONE WINGED ANGEL!!!!! It could only be described as epic!!!! =D. I have lived after hearing that!

There’s another concert planed sometime in Glasgow and I’m hoping i can attend it. And i seriously suggest that if you like music in anyway you should attend too!

Hey again

I’m afraid its been a long time since my last post…. Between still getting use to full time work on my placement, traveling round the country on weekends and a few er…other issues.. I haven’t had much time to update this blog…

Hopefully this is all set to change… First things first I’m going to be getting this site up and running properly, I’ve started work on the back end for the portfolio side and i should have the first release versions of my previous work on here in a couple of weeks.

After that i plan to start posting on here more regularly. This will not be a every day thing as this is currently split between here and my personal blog which is kept elsewhere. I’m Debating weather or not to combine them here but for now this will purely be focused on games/work related topics. (Heh… if i could actually talk about my work at my placement i have lots to say….)

So for now stay tuned

New Project - TaijiEngine

September 25, 2008 | In TaijiEngine 1 Comment

Hey All!

So though it was about time i started to announce what I’m actually working on. Well the first thing that I’m going to start to create is the TaijiEngine - A 2D Game Engine to be used in future projects.

I’m still in the research stages so its gonna take a couple of weeks before i can start to show so progress but it should cover all the subsystems such as System, Audio, Rendering, Input, Networking, Physics, Collision and Scripting.

I Know i could go off and just grab one of the main available ones on the net but this will be great practice for me and help me developing my skills. And also having this ready and working will enable me to quickly produce other projects (which is good as one of the future projects will possibly be released episodically…)

I will keep you updated as the project goes along ^_^
